Artist's Comments

Credit for this idea and instructions on how to do it goes to the book "The Art of Painting Animals on Rocks" by Lin Wellford.
I know, It's blurry (my camera has a problem...), but anyway, It is a cat done in acryllic paints with a paint brush that was a little too big for my liking, and painted on a rock. The coloring of the cat is based on the character Cassandra from the musical CATS. It was a little annoying to do the fur on its back bacause I had to dip the brush back in the paint between EVERY stroke (cheap paintbrush...), and I was using paint that is a few years old, so I had a limited supply of colors. Anyhow, my goal is to make a rock-cat for each of the characters in CATS, the musical (one of these years...).

Looks really creepy, twisted, and cool. Too bad the image is so blured.

Cool! You painted that on a rock? How big is the rock? Is it smooth? I think it looks really realistic and detailed. It almost looks like one of those pictures from those very old artistic children's books. I really love that style. And exactly how many cats are there from the CATS musical? You have a long way to go little crnr! Are you going to save Jemima and Rumpleteazer for last since they are some of your favorite cats and you want to do them professionally? Anyways, it looks really great (even though it is blurry) and you should continue to post them as you make them.

Why are you telling me this? Are you going to be gone?

Wow! You're really up on your CATS knowledge! I don't know which ones I am doing last, I'll probably decide as I do them, and by how much paint I have in any particular color. The rock is pretty smooth, and it's about 3 inches across and 1 inch thick... I don't know off the top of my head how many cats there are... over 25, seeing that I was able to name all 20 clarinets after cats, and had names left over. It will probably take a LONG time to do all of them. Thanks you mrnrsr!
